Mobile marshal 1

Thanks again for offering to come and help out at the Serpent Trail!

It works really well for you to be mobile and swap between a few locations, covering some twice due to the two start waves of the 50k and the location just at the start of that race.

Please don’t stop motorists, nor tell runners when to cross - it is up to them. Instead communicate to them to be careful, watch traffic etc please?!

The google maps links below should direct you to the locations or also What 3 Words ( w3w) is a great location finding app that you can download onto your phone and can direct you anywhere, via a 3 unique 3 word location reference. Once you have this app you can type (copy & paste is best) the 3 words below into it and be directed to the exact spot for your marshal position.

Times are TO ARRIVE at locations please!

6.30-6.45am - First, please come to the event venue at Petersfield Rugby Club (Google maps; https://maps.app.goo.gl/r15xRJQ61GKzhizH7 )

  • Come to the Marshal check-in, at our race stores area - this is set up in the club car park, you will see our big trailer and shelters.

  • Here you will collect your event crew T shirt, Hi Viz vest (to return later please!), Emergency Action plan sheet of info/phone numbers and meal voucher for use before/after your shift

  • Please come prepared for a day of marshalling; consider a folding chair, sun cream, extra clothes/waterproofs and some snacks & a drink - we should have some extra snacks you can take too!

    YOU WILL NEED TO LEAVE HERE BY 7!

- 7.50am - Google location link; this is round the corner from the 50k start, (the other side of Petworth). (What3words;  reddish.mergers.printout )

If you can be by the little bridge to make sure everyone turns LEFT onto the path. You can park here fine. (last runner probably through by 8.25, it is a 5 min drive to next spot…)

- 8.40 - 9.40am - Google location link; (w3w requiring.functions.attends ) - this spot is in Fittleworth, at the Coates Lane junction.  You can park at the Fittleworth checkpoint area and it is a very short walk back down the road.

The runners come along the pavement, then at Coates Lane Jct it is better if they cross so they are on pavement on the other side of the road.  There should then be a marshal at the corner further up the road, where the runners leave the road to turn into the checkpoint.

- 9.50 - back up to your first spot, for the 2nd race start at 10am. Google location link  ( w3w reddish.mergers.printout ) - this is round the corner from the 50k start.   Same plan as before & location 1 map above!  (last runner probably through by 10.20, it is a 5 min drive to next spot)

- 10.35 - Same location in Fittleworth;  Google location link; (w3w requiring.functions.attends ) - this spot is in Fittleworth, at the Coates Lane junction.  You can park at the Fittleworth checkpoint area and it is a very short walk back down the road. This might be busier if they are more bunched up than the first wave?  

- 11.30 - This is in Midhurst, on the A286 road to Cocking/Chichester.  Google location link. (w3w clever.forge.similar )

Can you please be at the junction of Oaklands Lane to highlight the road crossing; people come down Oaklands Lane, cross the main road and run down the pavement past the Greyhound Pub.

This is a major road and has a lot of people coming over it - BRILLIANT if you could be there until 4-5 pm ish please?

You can either drop off your Hi Viz at the Midhurst checkpoint ( ridiculed.corrects.train ) or you’re very welcome to come back to the race venue and can then grab some free food and soak up the atmosphere!
